To walk the plank
off the edge of the status quo
into the chaos
where we are often afraid to go
To walk the plank
into a future that beckons us
with hope and love
that we can’t discover alone
To walk the plank
out of our eye and into the soul
to find the beauty of the imago Dei
trapped inside of our guilt, insecurity, and shame
To walk the plank
to risk, to fail, to fall
into the mystery
to find the freedom to lose it all
To walk the plank
beyond ourselves and into the One we can trust
for mercy. for justice, for freedom, for unending love
to extend through us
The image of walking the plank comes from my desire to lose my life in order to find it. As live my life following Christ, the hardest plank I often walk is the one in my own eye. This image helps to remind of the inward and outward journey of spiritual transformation.
This blog is a place to freely discuss ideas and thoughts about life and spirituality. A brief disclaimer is that they are my ideas, and do not represent the organizational viewpoint anyone else. I also reserve the right to disagree with myself at anytime as I am in the evolutionary process myself. I mean, would you want people quoting you on things you said 6 years ago?
Also, the image of the plank is a photograph by Mell Allen. I wish I took it myself, but I can’t take credit for it.
