This is the story of a one-eyed pirate and his wench as they walk the plank of stage IV melanoma.

Diagnosed in November 2011 with rare ocular melanoma, Steve became ‘The Pirate’ to his friends and family after enucleation of his left eye in a bid to eliminate cancer altogether. Sadly, melanoma is an insidious disease and in April 2016, Pirate Steve’s GP discovered tumours in his liver and one in his kidney after an ultrasound for abdominal pains.

The Pirate, 40, is currently receiving combination immunotherapy treatment to shrink the five tumours under the guidance of Dr Victoria Atkinson and the wonderful nurses at the Cyril Gilbert Cancer Centre at Greenslopes Hospital in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
